The Twachtman House (Circa 1890's)
You will love the airy spaciousness of this gracious old Victorian boasting a beautiful old-fashioned sun-porch opening onto a large private lawn that runs to the water's edge with uninterrupted views of Gloucester's outer harbor, Eastern Point, and Gloucester's dog bar lighthouse and breakwater.
The Twachtman House is ideal for small family gatherings, reunions or parties. A full kitchen (as well as a kitchenette), dining room and living room make this home an ideal solution for vacation entertaining.
Three bedrooms and one bathroom on the second floor provide plenty of sleeping space for a family and some guests. Two of the upper bedrooms have direct water views. A studio apartment on first floor provides a fourth bedroom with a queen bed and French doors opening to a waterside patio, full bath, efficiency kitchen and eating area, and separate entrance with courtyard. The Twachtman House was named after John Henry Twachtman, leader of the famous "group of ten" American impressionists who painted in the Rocky Neck area in the 1890's and early 1900's. During visits to Gloucester he lived in this house as did his fellow impressionists Frank Duveneck and Joseph de Camp.
About Rocky Neck and Rocky Neck All Seasons Rentals Rocky Neck is a small, 65-acre island located in Gloucester Harbor, connected by a public road to East Gloucester. Our neighborhood is family residential, located at the end of a private way, off the beaten track for cars and tourists. Quaint, charming, nautical, historic and scenic, the neighborhood is quiet and affords you privacy and security.
You may enjoy swimming and sunbathing from our private waterfront on Wonson Cove. Beach-combing on the sandbars at low tide is another popular pastime.
Within five minutes walk, you may: -> Dine at Rocky Neck's fresh seafood restaurants and casual coffee shops. -> Attend live theater around the corner @ The Gloucester Stage Company -> Browse through dozens of small shops, and art galleries -> Take part in art classes -> Observe the bustle and activity of working boat yards and harbor.
Gloucester is the Whale Watch Capitol of the World and offers many excellent whale watch trips daily. Other companies offer daily fishing trips.
You may walk or drive to Niles and Good Harbor beaches- half-mile and mile walks respectively - or take the local bus to visit downtown Gloucester and Rockport. Cape Ann's unique historic villages, museums, shops, seafood restaurants, beaches, cultural events and parks are all available to you.
