St Martin/St Maarten, shared by the French and Dutch for almost 350 years, is a vacationer's dream. The two countries are filled with an interesting history, loads of fun, beautiful beaches, a hopping nightlife and some of the finest dining in the Caribbean. An excellent point of interest for history buffs is the Fort St. Louis, the largest historical monument in St Martin. A stroll to the top provides you with an excellent panoramic view of the island. At the base of the fort, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, you can mingle around the Marigot Market and buy some fresh produce or sample some food. A trip to the Butterfly Farm is most enjoyable as butterflies from around the world fly around freely with music, flowers and waterfalls. Between the two islands there are 37 different beaches, each with their own flavor. For quieter beaches the ones on the French side tend to be more secluded with great privacy.
