The quaint town of Walterboro, known as the "Jewel of the Low Country", was founded in 1790 as a summer retreat for families of the surrounding rice plantations. It boasts 2 historic districts and is distinguished by old streets ornamented with ancient oaks draped in Spanish moss. Walterboro is situated in the ACE Basin, an area that attracts artists, naturalists, sportsmen and historians of plantation life, Civil and Rev. War sites. Guests can enjoy diversions such as antiquing, kayaking, river and plantation tours, bird-watching, arts and crafts exhibits, or, they can simply linger by the pool and savor the romantic atmosphere of this gracious old Southern home.
