Check out the beautiful Rincon Lodge, located just east of historic Durango, Colorado where you can enjoy countless seasonal activities such as golfing, horseback riding, river rafting, shopping, dining, and world-class hunting & fishing. Also nearby are Mesa Verde National Park, the Durango-Silverton narrow gauge railroad, two ski areas (Durango Mountain Resort and Wolf Creek Ski Area), and natural healing hot spring spas.
Built in 1995-1996, the Lodge itself is a magnificent 6,500 square foot custom log home with expansive wrap-around decks offering views of the majestic La Plata Mountains, the Florida Mesa, and abundant wildlife. Open floor plans, cathedral ceilings, and soaring windows provide views of deer, elk, and wild turkey seen almost daily year-round. Inside the Lodge, seven bedrooms will accommodate 20 guests with room for more upon request.
The main floor has two full-size sofas as well as additional seating for comfortable relaxation and is situated around a floor to ceiling woodburning river rock fireplace with satellite television and a DVD/VCR. Several entryways provide access to covered decks with panoramic views. Private bedrooms include shared full baths and another half bath with shower just around the corner. The dining area and kitchen on the main floor feature a teak dining table easily seating ten people with additional leafs for expansion. A massive elk antler chandelier adorns the area.
The custom kitchen and center island features solid granite countertops, a six burner gas range, double ovens, and everything else even the most discerning gourmet cook will appreciate. The center island provides casual seating. The mudroom offers a full-size washer and dryer, a full upright freezer, and a large open pantry.
The lower living area also has a full-size sofa and chair seating around a second river rock fireplace and satellite television with a DVD/VCR. It hosts four private bedrooms including a kids "dorm room" with a bassinet and one shared full bath. Two entryways provide access to covered patios.
Take the log staircase to the upper level and you will find the master suite complete with a rustic aspen log frame king-size bed and two private decks with views that will take your breath away. The master bath has a Jacuzzi tub, separate shower, double vanity, and a spacious walk-in closet that includes an extra sleeping area with futon, a ping pong table, or a secluded place to just be alone with your thoughts and relax.
Accommodations total two king-size beds, two queen-size beds, one full-size bed, four twin beds, one bunk bed, and two futon sleepers. Radiant in-floor heating is accented by oak hardwoods, carpet, slate, and saltillo tile.
In conjunction with the Lodge for larger parties, the 800 sf guesthouse will sleep 4 comfortably. Situated as a studio apartment or "mother-in-law" quarters above the 3 car garage, it offers the same stupendous views and peaceful settings as the Lodge, located approximately 60 yards directly north.
Located at 7487', the fully fenced 76 acres of ponderosa and juniper pine covered ground around the lodge offer endless nature trail hiking, snowshoeing, snow sledding, mountain biking, picnicking, barbecuing, horseshoes, and a ski run in the winter months to keep busy during your stay.
Area Features
Durango, Colorado is a town steeped in the history of the Old West, but is also forging an impressive path through to the future. Durango was founded in 1880 by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, when they extended their line from Durango to Silverton in order to haul precious metals from high country mines. The town of Durango is filled with quaint shops, vivacious restaurants, and eclectic museums that illustrate the town's diverse heritage. The rustic environs surrounding Durango are a picture-perfect postcard of natural beauty, and have been used as a backdrop for such major motion pictures as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and City Slickers. The area is a year-round vacation haven. A day's itinerary can include such activities as skiing, snowboarding, rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, camping, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, mining tours, golfing, and rock climbing.
In winter, skiing is king in the Durango area. There are over 200 miles of groomed trails used for multiple events like skiing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, cross country skiing, and snowboarding. The queen bee of the slopes is the Durango Mountain Resort, located about 25 miles north of the town of Durango. This is a full-season resort that attracts skiers in the winter and mountain bikers in the summer.
To experience Durango's many gifts, you need to venture no further than the San Juan National Forest. It covers an area from east to west of more than 120 miles and from north to south of more than 60 miles, encompassing an area of 1.8 million acres. The forest is filled with rivers, lakes, extreme peaks, mountain rock formations, and immense canyons that will excite all those that appreciate the great outdoors. Fishing, kayaking, hiking, spelunking, rock climbing, mountain biking, sailing, and even artifact hunting are just some of the activities to immerse yourself in while visiting the park.
History buffs might want to experience a bit of the past while riding on a vintage locomotive. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad winds through spectacular & breathtaking canyons in the remote wilderness of the two-million acre San Juan National Forest for an unforgettable year round adventure. Experience the adventure of traveling by a coal-fired, steam-powered locomotive on the same tracks miners, cowboys and settlers of the Old West took over a century ago.
For those who have an archeological bent, 36 miles west of Durango lies the Mesa Verde National Park. Mesa Verde offers a unique chance to walk in the actual footsteps of the vanished Anasazi civilization. Little has changed since 600 AD, when Pueblo Indians thrived in this mysterious collection of cliff dwellings. Explore everything from simple, one-room berths to villages of more than 200 adobe buildings.
Durango, Colorado has something for everyone. Want to see how the Old West was shaped? Durango has it. Want to get away from the madding crowd and try your hand at fly fishing? Durango has it. Want to ski mountains only reachable by helicopter? Durango has it. The hardest part about a vacation in Durango is knowing where to begin!
