Palau, the second-largest island nation in Micronesia, is actually made up of 300 islands, though only nine are inhabited. Its lush green Rock Islands offer spectacular beauty and a unique atmosphere, and the surrounding reefs boast some of the world's best SCUBA diving, fishing, sailing, snorkeling, canoeing, kayaking, and even swimming with dolphins and jellyfish. Palau has managed to maintain much of its cultural heritage depsite having been colonized by numerous other countries throughout its history.
