Fenwick Island, Delaware is a quaint seaside community on the East Coast.
Actually a peninsula, Fenwick Island is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the
East, the Little Assawoman Bay on the West, the Delaware State Park on the
North, and the Mason-Dixon Line on the South. Being surrounded by water makes
Fenwick Island a fishing paradise, with rockfish, bluefish, and flounder the
main catches in the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to fish, the Little Assawoman
Bay is the perfect spot for clams, crabs, mussels, and oysters. Swimming,
surfing, jet-skiing, kayaking, and other water sports are popular both in the
ocean and the bay.
Fenwick Island is the permanent home to just a few hundred, but during the
summer months Fenwick’s population grows to several thousand as vacationers
occupy the many rental homes and hotels available. But even at its most
populated, Fenwick Island remains peaceful and low-key. Just beyond the
Mason-Dixon Line from Fenwick Island is Ocean City, Maryland, where visitors can
enjoy the boardwalk and nightlife. But Fenwick Island itself also offers both
casual and fine dining, shopping, attractions, and more. The Fenwick Island
Lighthouse, completed in 1859, remains in operation, and visitors are allowed to
view it during certain hours and days.
